Victron's charger built for indoor use, in the workshop, garage, or anywhere it's out of the weather. Built-in Bluetooth lets you monitor voltage and current, and change settings, from your phone through the free VictronConnect app. It runs at up to 94% efficiency, generating far less heat than a standard charger, and once your battery's full, power draw drops to just 0.5W, which is 5-10x better than the industry standard.

It works through a 6-stage adaptive algorithm (test, bulk, absorption, recondition, float, storage), automatically adjusting to how the battery's actually being used. After 24 hours without discharge it drops into storage mode, lowering the float voltage to reduce corrosion and gassing, so it's safe to leave connected long-term. It can also force-feed a low current into a deeply discharged battery to bring it back, before switching to normal charging once voltage recovers. Works with lithium (Li-ion), AGM, gel and flooded lead-acid.

Synchronised parallel charging

Link up to 10 chargers together over a VE.Smart network and they'll charge a battery as if they were one larger charger. The chargers will synchronise the charge algorithm between them, switching simultaneously from one charge state to another.

It's handy for a few reasons: 

• If one charger stops for any reason, the others keep going.
• Simply add another charger later if you need more current instead of replacing the unit
• Running several smaller chargers can be cheaper, and easier to fit in a tight space, than one big one.

Which model do I need?

The Blue Smart IP22 comes in a range of amp ratings, with 1-output or 3-output models. As a rough guide, a higher amp rating charges a bigger battery faster, and a 3-output model lets you charge multiple battery banks from one charger.

One thing worth knowing: on 3-output models, the rated current is shared across all outputs, not delivered to each one, so a 30A 3-output charger puts a total of 30A across its outputs, not 30A per output, and the battery with the lowest voltage draws most of the current.
