Unlike the SmartShunt, it comes with a physical screen built in, so you get at-a-glance monitoring at the panel without needing your phone. Built-in Bluetooth pairs it with the free VictronConnect app too, for setup, deeper monitoring, and history on your phone when you want it.

Why choose it over the SmartShunt

Both monitor the same battery data to the same accuracy, the real difference is the display. The SmartShunt relies entirely on your phone, no screen on the unit itself, while the BMV-712 gives you a permanent readout mounted on your panel, handy if you want information visible at a glance without pulling out your phone every time, or if multiple people need to check it without needing the app. If you need a water resistant option or do not need a physical display, the SmartShunt may be better suited.
