Model

A solar charge controller takes the power your solar panels collect and stores it in your batteries. SmartSolar does this using fast, intelligent MPPT technology (explained below), reaching full charge in the shortest time possible at up to 98% efficiency. It keeps your batteries healthier for longer too, while getting the most out of your panels at every stage.

Key features

  • Fast, highly efficient power point tracking, up to 98%
  • Strong performance even in partial shade
  • Programmable charging profiles for different battery types
  • Street light function
  • Built-in Bluetooth for wireless monitoring and control via VictronConnect
  • Compatible with lithium (LiFePO4), AGM and gel batteries

Which model do I need?

Victron's naming tells you the limits directly. The first number in the model name is the maximum solar array voltage the controller can take, and the second is the maximum charge current it delivers to your battery.

MPPT stands for Maximum Power Point Tracking. It works by constantly reading the voltage and current coming off your panels and adjusting to pull the most power possible, especially useful when light levels are shifting, like on a partly cloudy day.

Tr means the model uses screw terminals rather than MC4 plug connectors.

On top of the VE.Direct port every model has, VE.Can models add a VE.Can communication port, allowing you to daisy chain multiple SmartSolar units before connecting to a GX device.

Monitor and control from your phone

Built-in Bluetooth pairs with the free VictronConnect app, so you can see the voltage and current of both your battery and of your PV array, and change settings from your phone without needing a separate display. From there you get access to the full range of settings so you can check performance, adjust charging behaviour, and manage the controller on the spot.

Add a GX device and your data feeds into Victron's VRM portal too, giving you the same full control and access to your system from anywhere with an internet connection, both VictronConnect and VRM are free to use. For remote sites with no internet nearby, a GlobalLink 520 or 530 unit lets you monitor the controller over the mobile network instead.

Protect Your Battery with the Intelligent Load Output

The load output terminals let you power devices straight off the controller, with a disconnect voltage you set yourself to stop the battery being drained too far. On top of that, the BatteryLife function will attempt a 100% recharge every day, If it hasn't reached full charge, potentially because of a stretch of bad weather, it nudges the disconnect voltage up slightly and keeps trying, so your battery isn't left sitting in a partial-charge state day after day.

Comes with a 5 year manufacturer warranty.
